New research carried out by Under Age Sales, the Union of Shop, Distributive and Allied Workers (USDAW) and the National Federation of Retail Newsagents (NFRN) has revealed that almost 6000 convenience store workers experience verbal or physical abuse every single day as a direct result of asking customers for identification to purchase age restricted products.

On Wednesday 15th February, Under Age Sales attended the Retail Crime seminar held at the Scottish Grocers’ Federation. It was here that we launched a first-of-its-kind qualification to Scottish retailers – the Award in Preventing Under Age Sales in Scotland.

While the internet provides many positive educational and social benefits to young people, there are a number of risks too. From access to age restricted products such as tobacco and alcohol, through to pornography, gambling and gaming, young people can easily find themselves knowingly or unknowingly engaged in activities which could be inappropriate or even illegal, and have the potential to put them in danger.
