CTSI Conference
Thank you to everybody who entered our 'Book Launch' Competition. We made the quiz challenging for our trading standards colleagues. The CORRECT answers are as follows: Screwdrivers – are not age restricted as they are not covered by the Criminal Justice Act 1988 (R v Davis [1988] Crim LR 564) Condoms – are not age restricted to buy, but would be age restricted to use for under 16’s Matches – are not age restricted and, since the new Petroleum (Consolidation) Regulations 2014 are no longer age restricted in licensed petroleum forecourts
Some of the common WRONG answers were: Teeth Whitening – are age restricted (18+) and the first application can only be done by a dental practitioner by the Sch. 4 and R.12(1) of the Cosmetic Products Enforcement Regulations 2013 Letter Openers – are covered by the Criminal Justice Act 1988 and, therefore, carry a 18+ age restriction Pets & Animals – are covered by s.11 of the Animal Welfare Act 2006 and, therefore, carry a 16+ age restriction BB Guns – are usually illegal to sell at all now, but if they are sold under one of the exemptions, they may not be sold to any person under the age of 18 under the Violent Crime Reduction Act 2006 (Realistic Imitation Firearms) Regulations 2007
